On my first day, I met to discuss expectations. he mentioned how a previous student had complained about his evaluations as he thought he filled out a fine evaluation and gave the student mostly meets. I explained to him how that is actually detrimental to our grade and meets is barely passing. He brushed it off as a "curving error. " I decided I was just going to bust my butt and work as hard as I could for a good evaluation. It was basically a total waste of my time. I went above and beyond in every single aspect he told me he liked to see out of medical students for a very average evaluation. I even met with him multiple times to ask for any feedback and pressed him for ways in which I could improve, and he consistently said he had no feedback for me and said that I was performing excellently, in fact, his exact words were "you are crushing it." There is one specific patient I counseled extensively on multiple different aspects of his healthcare (what every single day after his CABG surgery would look , what his return to function protocol would be, additionally, I walked him through every single option he had for obstructive sleep apnea treatment and tried to work with him as to what the best choice for him would be) and this guy still gave me meets in the section pertaining to counseling patients and their families. It's infuriating how much work I put in for the grade I received. If you are rotating with him good luck.
He was overall friendly and nice, but I would rather a mean attending who at least grades me fairly over a nice one that does not.
